Definition of a Friend

Everybody’s different. Some people need a lot of companions, others are lone wolves. But one thing that just about every person needs is at least one good friend. Somebody they can talk to about anything under the sun and know that it won’t go any further. Somebody that doesn’t need a lot of words to understand what’s going on. Somebody who is there, even if they’re not in the room. A friend is that person who has seen you in many of your variations – the genius, the idiot, the world’s greatest lover, the fool standing in the rain – and who will still answer the phone when you call. A friend is the one person who knows all the reasons why you don’t want to go to that 25-year reunion, and who will know the one reason you really have to go. A friend is the one who changed their plans so you could borrow their car, and didn’t hate you because you brought it back dirty and out of gas. A friend is somebody that believes in you when you chase some crazy dream, and doesn’t laugh at you when it crashes to the ground. A friend has the nerve to look you in the eye and tell you how dumb you sound without a hint of judgment in their eyes. A friend is the first person you can call when you need help, and is the last person to leave your side until you get it. A friend will do a lot of things for you, but the most important thing they do for you is let you be who you are. That is the definition of a friend.
